Scooping the Ex with 'bad idea right?' - Olivia Rodrigo's New Song Nails It!

Olivia Rodrigo

She sure knows how to whip up a song that fits right into this generation like a glove. The moment my attention latched onto the lyrics, it hit me – they're so simple yet pack a powerful punch, resonating with every teen who's been through a similar situation (Me? Oh, you bet! Guilty as charged!).

Released as the second single from this year's most anticipated upcoming album, Miss Rodrigo decided to dive right back into her ex's realm with the grungy, angsty pop-rock track "bad idea right?" Teamed with Daniel Nigro for this one, and let me tell you, this Olivia Rodrigo's new song is like "brutal's" edgier, angrier sister, complete with frenetic guitar riffs and thundering drums that hit hard. The theme? Should she, or shouldn't she, plunge back into her ex's realm? Can't help but got me wondering, "Olivia sis, really, are you sure about this?"

Guess what? Yep, she said “yes,” if you listen closely to the lyrics – "Yes, I know that he's my ex / But can't two people reconnect? / I only see him as a friend / The biggest lie I ever said." But then she throws in a "Fuck it! It is fine!" Well, let's just say, things went down, but hey, she's owning it, right? Right?

Now, the music video's a whole vibe, directed by Pete Collin, featuring her friend Tate McRae, Iris Apatow, and Madison Hu – they're all squeezed into a bathroom at this wild party going down in some suburban spot (that is when you can tell that things are about to get wild!). Olivia's all over the place – crowd surfing, hitching rides like a champ, hopping on trains – and of course, don't miss her getting slushie-bombed (or whatever that's called), and then making her grand appearance at her ex's place. It's basically a visual representation of someone still working through their ex baggage. Sound familiar? I bet it does.

In a nutshell, pumped as heck for the new album, "GUTS," dropping on September 8, 2023. Mark your calendars!
